The visitor to Merano benefits not only from the mild climate and the Mediterranean flora but also from the radon springs. The medical doctor Romuald Binder who was director of an elegant sanatorium at the beginning of the 20th century, was convinced that thermal springs could be found in Merano and initiated the search for them. In 1914 two radon springs were discovered in Tscherms. About two decades later geologist Prof. G. Trener found further springs on the Vigiljoch and on the garden terraces of Villa Tivoli.
The discovery of the springs and quality of the thermal water were the basis for the health resort. (Extract from "Being a guest in Merano")
